RentWorks Training Weekend
From 8 to 10 February 2013, RentWorks Africa hosted a MTB training weekend in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. With some of the country’s top riders, Max Knox, Ben-Melt Swannepoel and Yolandi du Toit, onboard as technical advisors, the training camp was the ideal opportunity to pick up some expert tips and tricks.
The riders ranged from beginners to the more experienced, and many used the weekend to train for the ABSA Cape Epic race. Induna Adventures provided the trails and Jaco, from Cycle Junkies, Sabie, provided mechanical support. The two young Exxaro Academy riders Prince Maseko and Thomas Sokhalengane, who have raced the Epic before, took the opportunity to do some intense single track training ahead of this year’s race.
Day one was a three-hour “warm-up ride” over the hills of the Shabalala homeland. Day two offered a more serious six-hour ride on some of the First Acsent Big Induna MTB Classic race routes. With a storm having hit Hazyview the day before the camp started, lots of bundu-bashing was in order. The final day, it poured with rain, but this didn’t deter the riders one bit. The hot showers and coffee afterwards were much appreciated though.
All in all, the Rentworks training camp was seen as a great success and a good opportunity for riders from Rentworks, client companies and organised race teams to get to know each other as they took on the beautiful but tough MTB tracks that Hazyview has to offer.
